While mum is visiting Auntie Kaff in Kanada I’m looking after dad. He can be quite hard work, but he’s not to bad, and I gotta keep him sweet ‘cos I’m after a new bike.
Anyway, you know what a drag it is having to go to bed early especially in the summer when it’s still light outside. Yeah? Well dad tends to nod off in the chair around 9pm, so I make him comfy with cushions and a blanket and he’ll sleep happily for a couple of hours. That lets me get on with the serious business of watching some cartoons!

Here he is. My little brother! Cute eh?
Like, last week I was just Little Eleanor. Now, I’m a big sister! It’s like I grew up overnight!!!
Here’s the official words from Mummy…
Introducing, after a long journey, the arrival of…..
Alistair Andrew Bennett
On 2nd April 2009
Weighing 8lbs 5oz
What a gorgeous little boy and brother for Eleanor!
Here’s the official speech from one Grandma…
Alistair Andrew Bennett, born on 2nd April to Lorraine & Andrew who have already been blessed with a daughter, Eleanor. Eleanor is indeed very proud to have a baby brother. We think Alistair is very much like Eleanor was when she was born. Lorraine has been phenomenal throughout her pregnancy the proof is in the delivery of such a clear skinned and handsome little boy. Andrew too is extremely delighted to be a Dad again, he will make an excellent Dad to Alistair. Ed & I are thrilled to be Grandparents again.
No doubt there’ll be a lot more said. Granny Hodgkins is enroute. Oh and Dad keeps going on about wetting the babies head, whatever that means.

God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.
…. and not forgetting Grandmas, they’re mothers too…
While we honour all our mothers
with words of love and praise.
While we tell about their goodness
and their kind and loving ways.
We should also think of Grandma,
she’s a mother too, you see….
she mothered my dear mother
as my mother mothers me.

We got our lives on hold and there’s nothin’ we can do,
Stuck here in limbo, just waitin’ for you,
and though the days drag by we’re always in a rush,
Waitin’ for the kid, like we know we must.
C’mon little bro’ we’re ready and waiting for you!

Well, actually the Welwyn Hatfield Times, which is far more important.
During half term the owner of “Muffin Break” in Welwyn Garden City ran a promotion where us kids could decorate cookies to be baked. Grandma entered me for it but went on a trip to Ireland when it was on so Grandad took me.
When we got there they gave me some dough and some shaped cutters with some smarties and choc chips for decoration. There was enough dough for three cookies and I had great fun cutting them out and decorating them. There were a lot of choc chips left over so Grandad helped out by eating some of them!
Eventually, when I was happy with my work, they went to be baked, and we were asked to come back in half an hour. They turned out great, and I whisked them away, ha ha!!
Grandad didn’t have one because he’d had the left over smarties and chock chips. I gave one to mummy, one to daddy, and one for me.
We didn’t know that they had been photographed until Auntie Melanie told us about the newspaper article. Keval (the owner) did say to Grandma that my creations were among the best efforts. Have a look for yourself! Mmmmmmmmm!
